As promised here is a wonderful story about Ronnie and one of his youngest fans. (Grab some tissues!)
Meet Dawn McCoy and her two year old son Waylon, who is lovingly referred to as "Way".
On Monday, Ronnie played a concert at the Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas. Dawn and her family, including Waylon attended Ronnie's show for Waylon's second birthday.
His mother explained his connection to Ronnie to Josh of Ronnie Milsap1943.
"The first time I discovered the Waylon-Ronnie connection was when Way was 4 days old. He hated having his diaper changed and would cry. One night, I was playing my favorite 80s country mix on spotify.
And then…Ronnie’s “I Wouldn’t Have Missed It For The World” came on. He immediately not only stopped crying, but he started looking like he was hearing a familiar song. A favorite song.
I remember asking him, “do you know Ronnie Milsap?”
To be honest, it was downright spooky…but also really cute.☺️
Then, it started coming in handy during therapies and hospital visits."
His mother then explained, "it seemed like the medical community around us started seeing the magic of the “Milsap Morphine” effect, with all of them stating they’d never seen anything like it before.
Then we noticed it started helping him come to out of seizures.
Yes, Ronnie Milsap even helps stop my baby’s seizures.
We started recording the seizures and recovery for our neuro at CHLA who said she had never heard of music helping someone recover from a seizure.
And, last week, at Duke Children’s, when he was getting his cord blood infusion our nurse practitioner gave Way a very special welcome…a music therapist playing his song on the guitar as he received his infusion.
So, getting to tell Ronnie what his song means to us was one of the best moments in my life."
And there you have it. Little Way McCoy got to meet his life saving hero Ronnie Milsap, decked out in a replica shirt. Special thanks to @Iamdawnmccoy on Instagram for allowing us to share Waylon's story and his meet and greet with Ronnie with us.
Dawn went on to explain that she estimates that Way has heard "I Wouldn't Have Missed It For The World" approximately 843 times.
We are so happy to hear stories like this. It also does not leave any doubt in my mind that Ronnie and his music is special. We are so happy that Waylon has found enjoyment and strength to fight his health issues through Ronnie's music. (And it looks like Ronnie got a lot of enjoyment out of meeting his young fan too!)
